The 4 partners in the Erasmus+ project “European Dimension in Sport and Physical Activity with Young People” – #EDSPAA [613355-EPP-1-2019-1-BG-SPO-SSCP] conducted an international summer event between 14 and 16 July 2021 in Barcelos, Portugal. It was inspired by the European Week of Sport concept to #BeActive – not just for the week but all year long, The participants from Association “Sport Club Comac Sport”, Sofia, Bulgaria; Športno Društvo Media Šport”, Ljubljana, Slovenia; “Agrupamento De Escolas De Barcelos”, Braga, Portugal; and “Salas Vidusskola”, Sala, Latvia took part in this event which mirrored different cultural expressions through sport, and created a bridge between European nations for better mutual understanding. The #BeActive transnational meeting was based on a series of sports activities linked by 1 key essential element: the setup of a sustainable international network to generate and share good practices on experiencing traditional sports and games from distinct cultures, but also promoting the universal language of sport among youth.

The event program covered a wide range of ETSG activities and panel discussions. More than 40 participants joined the event and enjoyed the multicultural aspects program. The traditional games played at the event demonstrated the power of sport as a tool for overcoming stereotypes and building a common European culture and identity.

“The ETSG are part of the intangible European heritage and a symbol of the cultural diversity of our societies. As such they are also considered means of conveying values of solidarity, respect for diversity and inclusiveness”, commented the host of the event and project partner from Agrupamento de Escolas de Barcelos – Braga, ‏‏‎Mr. Fernando Carvalho.

“ETSG have a great potential to stimulate youth to be physically active by making them play interesting games – accessible to everyone and not requiring expensive sport infrastructure. Through traditional sports and games, young people acquire important life skills such as: quick thinking and reaction, development of logic and orientation, improvement of physical culture, and making friends”, commented the Project Coordinator from Association “Sport Club Comac Sport”, Mr. Stanislav Dzhinsov.

The project partners distributed the Booklet presenting the project results to a wide range of adolescents (you can find it here).
